Ferocious Oaks
I’ve had a crush on Christel Duckwitz for like two and a half years, but in that period of time we’ve only taken pictures together once. She’s recently become one of my best friends and it was cool because last night she invited me to come watch her and her band, Ferocious Oaks, to perform at a poetry reading in downtown Salt Lake City outside the Kayo Gallery on 2nd and 3rd. I was more than happy to oblige, and after getting a 32oz Slurpee, I could’ve stood and listened to music and poetry all night. Sadly for me, however, it was only a 1.5 hour performance.
Christel’s brother Justin is the lead singer and guitarist for the band, and the other members are Chris Nuttall, Kjirsten Christensen, and Clayton Godby. Indie Folk music is probably my favorite genre and these guys are an incredibly entertaining band to watch. Next time you get a chance to watch a Ferocious Oaks show, I highly recommend you do it. Check out their Facebook Page and Like It.

Thanks, guys, for letting me come hang out.
Wow! It was really awesome to walk around a corner to discover a full on band playing in the street. I love live music and I wish I had caught more than they’re last two songs.
The Sound needed a little help though. The high and high mid bands on the mixer were pulled way down making the vocals sound like little more than a fog horn and painfully difficult to understand. The harp also was hard to hear above everything else.
Really high energy performers and fun music. I still can’t quite believe that there was a full size harp on the street corner! I’m new to Salt Lake City and this may have been the coolest thing I’ve seen so far.
dude. these are the coolest pics dude. Glad you were there to help us document that. Fun night.
The poets were great too. They included Adam Love, Chris Leibow, David Alberti, Amy Childress, Beau Stickrod, and myself. All of is are involved in various projects of our own. You can see many of them perform at the monthly poetry slam every last monday of the month at Moe’s Bar and Grill in SLC, 358 s West Temple, or at the weekly reading at Greenhouse Effect every Sunday nightl located at 700 e 3300 s. Lastly, I will continue to put togethor Rogue Readings such as the one featured above every month at the gallery stroll.
